About Dr. Hannum

 

 

Dr. Christopher F. Hannum, Sr. is the first allopathic physician to own four medical management offices in the Philadelphia metropolitan area. For the past twenty years he has provided residents of the five state areas (Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey, Delaware and Maryland) and the Philadelphia Main Line with high quality, good outcomes oriented weight control services utilizing best practices and innovative treatment regimens. In 2002 he became a fellow of the Weight Control Research Institute in Marietta, Georgia. His special interests include increasing longevity in the community by decreasing the risk of cardiovascular disease through healthy dietary and lifestyle choices and the prevention and treatment of hypertension, diabetes and obesity. In 2010 Dr. Hannum was elected president of the Delaware County Medical Society. He received personal congratulations from The Honorable Michael A. Nutter, Mayor of the City of Philadelphia, PA, and The Honorable Wendell N. Butler Jr. of the City of Chester, PA.

Dr. Hannum was born and raised in Philadelphia. He is the first-born son and the second of four children born to Rev. Stephen W. Hannum and Mrs. Joyce T. Hannum who have been married since 1953. He attended St Joseph’s Preparatory School in North Philadelphia where he graduated in 1975 in the top 2% of his class. He attended Amherst College in Amherst, Massachusetts where he received a B.A. in biology in 1979. He attended Cornell University Medical College in New York City where he received the M.D. degree in 1983. Returning to his hometown Dr. Hannum completed his internship and residency in internal medicine at Presbyterian Hospital in Philadelphia. He remained at Presbyterian Hospital as a teaching attending in the Department of Medicine. After achieving certification by The American Society of Addiction Medicine in 1991, he was appointed Medical Director of the Addiction Treatment Services at the Mt. Sinai Hospital in South Philadelphia. In 1997 he was appointed Medical Director of the Addiction Treatment Service at the Kirkbride Center (formerly the Institute of Pennsylvania Hospital) in West Philadelphia. In 2009 he achieved certification by the American Board of Addiction Medicine.
Dr. Hannum was only the 282nd physician worldwide to achieve this certification.

 

From 1997-2003 Dr. Hannum was a member of the Board of Directors of St. Joseph’s Preparatory School where he was Chairman of the Education Committee of the Board. During his tenure on the Board of Directors the St. Joe’s Prep Board established a scholarship fund for the students of diversity at the Prep.

 

Dr. Hannum is an active member of the Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. Zeta Omicron Lambda Chapter in Philadelphia where he was the Chapter President From 2004 to 2007. During his tenure as Chapter President the annual Z.O.L Alpha Forum explored politics, public health, mental health and education issues in the community in a public forum with expert guest speakers. In recognition of his outstanding leadership and commitment to mentoring troubled youth he received the Zeta Omicron Lambda Chapter Man of the Year Award in 2005 and 2006. In 2007 Dr. Hannum served as President of the Olde Philadelphia Club. Dr. Hannum resides in Upper Providence Township, Delaware County.
